Manga Wicked Lovely Desert Tales Sanctuary series, co-release TokyoPop & HarperCollins, starting 2009.
This is connected to the world of the novels. It's slated to be a three book series.
One of the interesting things to me in writing Wicked Lovely was the question of Winter Girls who'd become free of the curse. That topic was one I couldn't explore in the novel, so I started writing a story about Rika, one of the former Winter Girls. What would they do? What would life be like? What are the complications?

Fragile Eternity

Fragile Eternity is the third book set in Melissa Marr's Wicked Lovely universe. It is the sequel to her first book, Wicked Lovely, and includes characters from her second book, Ink Exchange. It is the second book in the trilogy that began with Wicked Lovely and will end with Book 5. (Book 4 will be a standalone)

WL-Summer Court guards

Encountered: Chapter Five - by Donia, at her cottage, Chapter Nine - by Donia, in the streets of Huntsdale, Chapter Eleven - at the school.

Beira visits Donia--as always after Keenan's visit to her--and keeps moving close enough to Donia that she steps out into her yard and watches the guards:

'In the shadows she saw a score of Keenan's lackeys. Rowan-men, fox-faeries and other court soldiers - even those that looked almost mortal were still somehow strange to her after decades of their presence. They were always there, watching her, carrying word of her every move back to him. No matter that she told him innumerable times that she wanted them gone. No matter that she felt trapped by their watching and waiting.
[...]
He'd been too used to Rika's cooperation, too used to everyone kowtowing to him. So Donia had frozen a number of guards during the first decade. If they came too close to her, she let a thick rime cover them until they couldn't move. Most had recovered, but not all.
Keenan merely sent more. He didn't even complain. No matter how awful she was to him, he insisted on sending more of his guards to keep watch over her. And she kept lashing out, freezing them until eventually he told the next round of guards to stand in the safety of the furthest trees or perch in the boughs of the yew and oak. It was progress of a sort.' (pg54 and pg55)

'Across the street several of Keenan's guardsmen kept a discreet distance, winding their way around the people, leaning into the crumbling facades of the buildings in this part of the city, and somehow still managing to keep the edges of their longs coats from dragging through any of the filth on the ground.' (pg94 and pg95)

'The guards were keeping their distance, but even being near that much iron had to be painful for them. He motioned for them to pull back further.' (pg96)

'She kept her voice as low as she could in hopes that Keenan's guards wouldn't hear.
One of them was already moving closer to her.
Too late. She hid her brief smile - any success against them was a pleasure - as she disconnected.' (pg116 and pg117)

'Along with the stares from half the students at school, Keenan's faeries watched them, unabashed as the fey always were. They seemed tired, shifting in and out of the school in small groups. Although the metal-laden building must be painful for them, they stood alert and observant, keeping Keenan in their sight at all times. They treated him reverently. Why wouldn't they if Keenan is a faery king.' (pg117)

Of all of Keenan's guards that are sent to watch over Keenan and Donia in Wicked Lovely, only two are named: Evan, who leaves the Summer Court at the end of Wicked Lovely to become the head of her new guard, and Skelley, who is described as 'soft, like the Scrimshaw Sisters'. It is unknown if any other of the guards regularly watch over her: only those two are named and mentioned multiple times.

WL-Rowan-men

Encountered: Chapter Eleven - at the school.

As Aislinn meets Keenan when he is first joining her school, she notices one of the rowan-men. It is unknown if he is encountered again, or even if he is Evan or Skelley; he isn't mentioned again with any sense of familiarity:

'She stood there, trying not to bolt, refusing to look at Keenan - even though he watched her expectantly - while several more faeries walked up behind Father Myers.
One of the ones whose skin looked like bark - crackled and greyish - caught Keenan's gaze. He gestured at the others who were fanned out at the entrance and said, "All clear."
"Miss Foy? Aislinn?" Father Myers cleared his throat.
She looked away from the retinue of faeries that had invaded Bishop O'Connell. "I'm sorry, Father. What?"' (pg113)

WL-Tavish

Tavish is a member of Keenan's Summer Court and serves as one of his closest advisors. He is acknowledged as the oldest of the King's advisors and seems to suffer the most from the curse (with the exception of Keenan and Donia).

Keenan notes Tavish served his father, the prior Summer King, so Tavish remembers -- and longs for -- the previous glory of the Summer Court. After centuries waiting and hoping for the arrival of the Summer Queen, Tavish has become very serious and in tight control of his emotions. This prompts Niall to worry if Tavish doesn't become more emotional and animated -- as opposed to dour and controlled -- he'll end up a part of the High Court.

Tavish is a tall, elegant summer fey; Aislinn describes him in Chapter 11 of Wicked Lovely: 'If she glanced at them quickly, they looked like they weren't much older than her, but the taller of the two had a strange solemnity that made Aislinn suspect he was old. He had unusually long hair for such a serious demeanour; under his glamour it glittered like thick silver cords. A smallish black sun tattoo was visible on the side of his throat, exposed by his tightly plaited hair.' Aislinn first encounters him at her high school, posing as one of Keenan's two "uncles."

Tavish is literally and figuratively "old school" in his attitudes. He has a narrow and somewhat mysoginistic view of women in general, and mortal girls in particular. He implies on more than one occasion women/girls are good for only "one thing," saying "being friends is not what girls are for."

In discussions on how best Keenan can persuade Aislinn to be the Summer Queen, Tavish's advice to Keenan is to use whatever means necessary to compel her to take up the staff and assume the role. Tavish condones and supports Keenan's efforts to tempt Seth with female fey, and in so doing, showing Ash she can't trust her friend.

Keenan feelings of urgency and desperation over restoring the Summer Court are reinforced by Tavish. When Donia tells Keenan Beira has asked her to cheat at the game and keep Aislinn from touching the staff, Keenan asks Tavish for advice. The older fey says just hearing Beira fears Ash is enough to give him hope.

His advice to Keenan on how to influence Aislinn to become Summer Queen is chilling and indicative of his overall attitude: "Make her agree . . . do whatever you must, even if it is . . . unpalatable to you or her."

WL-Niall

Niall (nye-ale) or (neil) -- "champion"; "passionate, vehement"; anglicized as "Neil."

The last Summer King accepted Niall into the Summer Court despite Niall's dubious past. His dual sense of gratitude and indebtedness, combined with his pre-Summer Court experiences, make him inflexible on ethics issues. Niall is a member of Keenan's Summer Court, and is one of his closest advisors. He's at least as old as Keenan, since he's been helping in the search for the Summer Queen since the beginning.

Aislinn, about Niall: 'The second faery had shorn wood-brown hair, and a face that would be somehow forgettable but for the long scar that ran from his temple to the corner of his mouth.'

Leslie says of Niall, "his face was as beautiful as Keenan’s but in a different way: Niall’s had character. One long scar ran from his temple to the corner of his mouth, and he wasn’t shy about it. His hair was cut so short that there was no chance of anything detracting from the beauty of that jagged line."

Niall has the sleek, musculature of a martial artist.

Niall seems the most empathic of Keenan's circle of guards, Summer Girls and advisors. He's aware of the impact the curse has on the court, noting it's effect on Tavish, for example. In addition, he is aware of the change the mortal girls undergo when they become Summer Girls. In a conversation between Keenan, Tavish and himself, Niall points out to Tavish mortal girls lose their inhibitions when they become Fey and that is why they are so receptive and "affectionate." Niall also knows how Donia feels, calling it "the Winter Girl's melancholy love."

The most important aspect of Niall's contribution to Keenan's decision-making is his concern with volition. Initially, this concern manifests when he carefully explains to Tavish why it is the mortal girls' attitudes toward sex and men change after they become Summer Girls.

Later, when Keenan has decided to take Tavish's advice and use whatever persuasion necessary to get Aislinn to accept her role as Summer Queen, Niall steps in and stops him. Moreover, in their discussion, Niall pushes Keenan to think about the sort of king he wants to be, now that he's on the brink of finally coming into his full power. Niall's advice is to be a fair and just King, setting an example and not allowing the type of cruelty the Dark court allows.

In Leslie's opinion, Niall seems sweet -- kind in a way that Keenan wasn’t.

Niall is one of the three POVs in the second novel, Ink Exchange.

WL-Summer Girls

Encountered: Chapter Seven - in the library, Chapter Eight - in the library and mentioned later in Seth's home, Chapter Ten - in the streets of Huntsdale.

The Summer Girls are earlier girls, chosen by Keenan, sometime during the past nine centuries as 'the one'. The Summer Girls are the girls who didn't choose to lift the staff and try their luck at becoming Summer Queen; there is at least eighty of them. They need to be around Keenan to thrive--otherwise they'll fade. It is unknown how long they can stay away from him, or if the events of Wicked Lovely have changed how close they need to remain to him.

'The door opened and a mother with a couple of kids came in.
Behind them was a group of faeries, invisible to the other patrons. All six were beautiful - moving like models, wearing clothes that looked like they'd been tailored for their willowy bodies. If it weren't for the flowering vines slithering across their skin, they'd look human. The vines, though, were like living tattoos, moving of their own volition, crawling on the girls' bodies.
One of the girls span across the floor in some old-fashioned dance. The others giggled and bowed to one another before following her.
Then the first one saw Donia. She murmured something to the others and they stopped. Even the undulating vines stilled.
[...]
Finally, Aislinn said, "If you hadn't been there..."
"What?" The expression on Donia's face was pained as she looked away from the faeries.
[...]
Donia shot a brief glare at the faeries, who were giggling again.' (pg77 and pg78)

In Chapter Eight, after Donia leaves and Seth arrives, he leaves her side briefly to grab notes, and the Summer Girls come closer to Aislinn:

'"Let me grab my notes." Then he walked away, right past the group of faeries headed towards Aislinn.
One of the faery girls circled behind her. She's the new one.
A second one stroked a hand over Aislinn's hair. Pretty thing.
Another shrugged. I suppose.
Aislinn tried to keep her face blank. Focus. She concentrated on the rustling of the leaves against the girls' clothes, not the strange sugary-sweet scent that seemed to pervade the air around them, not the too-hot brush of their skin as they inspected her with their hands. It wasn't comfortable - at all - but after the fiasco outside, their touch seemed somehow less awful. The violence of the three guys... She shuddered.
The faeries chattered back and forth, louder now that Donia had left and, presumably, no one in the library could hear them.
The Winter Girl seems to be making progress.
This one's a no-touch now.
Who cares? I'm not fond of girls. Now her friend... He's touchable. Tasty.
They giggled.
If she's the one, she won't have a choice, will she? Her friend will be free game.
[...]
Who says we need to wait? One of the faeries stroked his cheek, another pinched him.
Seth's eyes widened.
Aislinn's heart thumped. He felt it. She'd never had to try to speak so the faeries didn't understand her, not with anyone but Grams, not with anyone who couldn't see them. Hoping the faeries were as daft as they looked, she slid her arm around his waist and tugged him towards the door, away from the lascivious faeries. "Ready to go home?"
"Definitely." He sped up a little, and draped an arm over her shoulders.
The Summer King might have some competition.
You want to tell him that? "Oh, Keenan, love... her toy is yummy."
Don't be mean. The king's good fun.
They all giggled again.
How much fun will he be with her around? You know how he gets.
I'll volunteer to distract the mortal, so Keenan can woo her.
Mmm, me too. Look at all those rings on his face. Wonder if he's got a tongue ring?' (pg80-pg82)

Aislinn mentions the Summer Girls again a few pages later:

'Finally she pulled back a little and told Seth about the faeries at the library who'd been circling her and talking about him. Then she asked, "So what do you think?"
He wrapped a long strand of her hair around his finger and stared at her. "About tongue rings?"
"About the faeries' comments," she corrected, blushing. She slid forwards like she was going to hop off the counter. "They seem to know what's going on, maybe you could see if there's anything about groups of Rianne-like faeries? You know, one's that are overly shallow and, umm, Seth..."' (pg85)

They are encountered again briefly (it is unknown if the Girls are the same as those earlier encountered) in Chapter Ten:

'Seth held on to her, but he didn't say anything.
"What would I do without you?" She closed her eyes, not wanting to see the vine-girls - or any of the other faeries - who stood watching them.' (pg104)
