He is a member of Keenan's Summer Court, working as a guardsman. He's one of the rowan men: members of the Summer Court who make up most of the guardsmen for Keenan, his Summer Girls and the Winter Girl.

Keenan rotates the rowan men between Donia and himself. Evan, however, has remained one of Donia's guards for decades.

Donia originally distrusted the men Keenan sent to watch over her. She considered them spies, and was unfriendly -- usually not speaking to them or even acknowledging their presence. When she first became Winter Girl, she and Keenan continually argued over these guards. She wanted him to stop sending them; Keenan refused. In retaliation, Donia froze the guards who got too close to her. A few didn't recover. Ultimately, Keenan ordered his men to keep a minimum distance.

As a result of this--and also because proximity to the Winter Girl means proximity to cold--most of the Summer Court don't want to spend a lot of time with Donia. In spite of this, Evan has remained.

Evan often lets his gaze meet Donia's, acknowledging it with a grin, a wink or a nod. More importantly (given Donia has no real friends except Sasha), Evan often lets her know when he sympathizes with her situation -- usually during periods when Beira is "visiting." At those times, he makes sympathetic faces, or shudders. Over time, Donia has become used to Evan, and would consider him a friend if it wasn't for the fact his loyalty is, ultimately, to Keenan, his King.

When Beira, the Winter Queen, becomes convinced Aislinn is the Summer Queen, she begins threatening Donia, applying pressure to get her to cheat at the game. In one instance, she kills her attendant, Agatha, and leaves the body for Donia to deal with. Evan dares approach and speak to Donia, offering to move Agatha's body -- asking her to allow the guards to come closer to better protect her, or just to allow a single guardsman to stay with her.

Remarkably, Donia opens up a little, admitting to being afraid, of knowing Beira will kill her -- eventually, but not yet. She can't and won't tell Evan everything, but she does have him take messages between her and Keenan.

Donia describes Evan as having grey-brown skin, dark green leafy hair and bright red eyes. When he moves, it sounds faintly like the rustle of leaves.

At the very end of the novel, when Donia becomes Winter Queen Evan leaves the Summer Court to become the captain of her guard. The Winter Court fey grumble over this, but do not challenge it.
