WL-AislinnThis is a featured page

Name: According to Melissa Marr's Site, Aislinn or Aisling (ASH-ling) means "vision" or "dream." The nickname for her, "Ash," also has significance in regard to faery lore: Rowan (Mountain Ash) possesses power in various lore. Similarly, "ashes" are what's left behind after something or someone is burnt away.

Her last name is Foy.

Job: Summer Queen

Characteristics: Keenan describes her on pages 18-19 of Wicked Lovely: 'Her already-pale skin blanched when he reached out to her, making her look like a wraith framed by her straight blue-black hair. Delicate. It made her seem more vulnerable, easier to approach. Or maybe that was just because she was so slight. He imagined he could tuck her head under his chin and fit her whole body in the spare fold of his coat. Perfect. She'd need some guidance on attire - replace the common clothes she seemed to prefer, add a few bits of jewelry - but that was inevitable these days. At least she had long hair.' Both Keenan and Seth are noted to be considerably taller than Aislinn.

Personality: Aislinn has "the Sight." It runs in her family; her grandmother, Grams (Elena), has it, and her mother, Moira, had it. What she sees of faeries frighten her more than the mundane things that most of us fear.

Since she can't always be reacting to things only she can see, she's learned to maintain a tight control over her emotions and hide them. Even so, she is volatile, and changes moods quickly.

Because she views herself as "different," she is slow to trust and is very careful when selecting friends. With the exception of Seth, Aislinn has kept many of her friends at arm's length. Loyalty, dependability, honesty and a strong understanding of what is right versus wrong describe her and are the same things she looks for in others.

Likes: English class with Sr. Mary Louise, playing pool, tea, yogurt, Seth, photography, and art.

She has one peircing in each ear and would like to get some facial piercings, but can't because of the dress code at Bishop OC (her high school).

History/Other: Her mother, Moira, was also chosen by Keenan, but he left her alone when she became pregnant. After Aislinn was born, Moira died "by her own hand" rather than become a Summer Girl. Aislinn grew up with her grandmother, Grams. Her grandfather died young, and it's not known who her father is.

Melissa Marr has confirmed, however, that Aislinn's father was a mortal, not fey.

Aislinn spent her childhood learning how to stay inconspicuous and hide her Sight. Grams taught her how to keep the fairies from chasing her and taught her three basic rules:

#3 Don't stare at invisible Faeries.
#2 Don't speak to Invisible Faeries.
#1 Don't ever attract Faeries attention.

She has followed these rules all her life. Anytime she began to doubt them, not follow them, or attact the attention of fairies in some way, she was put on "lock-down". This meant she couldn't leave home. As a result, she ended up spending much of her time home-schooled during her middle school years.

Now she goes to a Catholic high school where her friends are: Rianne, Carla, and Leslie. She stays out of the over-sexed, druggy world for the most part, but occasionaly indulges in substances or alchohol if she can spend the rest of the time in a safe place (aka - Seth's house).
